Benchmarks trade flat

The benchmark indices traded near the flat line in mid-afternoon trade. At 14:25 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was up 13.90 points or 0.03% at 40,779.91. The Nifty 50 index was down 10.60 points or 0.09% at 12,045.45.

In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index was down 0.81%. The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was down 0.34%. Both these indices underperformed the benchmark index.

The market breadth titled in the favour of sellers. On the BSE, 977 shares rose and 1439 shares fell. A total of 188 shares were unchanged. In Nifty 50 index, 20 stocks advanced while 30 stocks declined.

Stocks in Spotlight:

Jagran Prakashan surged 7.25% to Rs 59.15. The company's board will consider a proposal for buy-back of the fully paid-up equity shares of the company on Monday, 9 December 2019.

L&T Technology Services slipped 0.38% to Rs 1482. The company has been selected by Airbus India to manage their Avionics Software Development, V&V (Validation & Verification) and Data Analytics, it said in a BSE filing.

Numbers to track:

The yield on 10-year benchmark federal paper rose to 6.485% at 14:27 IST compared with 6.460% in the previous trading session.

In the foreign exchange market, the rupee was currently trading flat. The partially convertible rupee was hovering at 71.74, compared with its close of 71.74 during the previous trading session.

In the commodities market, Brent crude for February 2020 settlement was up 88 cents at $61.37 a barrel. The contract fell $2.52 or 3.99% to settle at $60.49 a barrel during the previous trading session.

MCX Gold futures for 5 December 2019 settlement rose 0.64% to Rs 37,786.
