Bharat Electronics leads gainers in 'A' group

Havells India, Torrent Power, Jain Irrigation Systems and MCX are among the other gainers.

State-run defense electronics equipment maker Bharat Electronics jumped 20% to Rs 2,114.40. The stock topped the gainers in the BSE's 'A' group. Shares of defence equipment makers were in demand after the government on Tuesday, 26 August 2014, notified increase in foreign direct investment (FDI) limit to 49% through approval route in the defence sector.

Electrical equipments maker Havells India galloped 8.27% to Rs 295.30. The stock was second biggest gainer in 'A' group. The stock hit a record high of Rs 297 in intraday today, 27 August 2014.

Power utility Torrent Power spurted 7.39% to Rs 137.35. The stock was third biggest gainer in 'A' group.

Micro-irrigation products maker Jain Irrigation Systems climbed 5.39% to Rs 90.85 on bargain hunting after the stock tumbled 8.15% in the preceding five trading sessions to Rs 86.20 on 26 August 2014, from a recent high of Rs 93.85 on 19 August 2014. The stock was fourth biggest gainer in 'A' group.

Commodity exchange operator MCX rose 5.08% to Rs 856.85 after the company said that Forward Market Commission has approved Kotak Mahindra Bank's proposal to buy 15% stake in MCX. The company made the announcement during trading hours today, 27 August 2014. The stock was fifth biggest gainer in 'A' group.
