Central Bank of India leads gainers in 'A' group

Hindustan Unilever, Reliance Power, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals and Jaiprakash Power Ventures are among the other gainers.

State-run Central Bank of India jumped 7.24% to Rs 71.80 after net profit surged 773.69% to Rs 191.60 crore on 7.5% rise in operating income to Rs 6927.71 crore in Q1 June 2014 over Q1 June 2013. The result was announced on Saturday, 26 July 2014. The stock topped the gainers in the BSE's 'A' group.

FMCG major Hindustan Unilever (HUL) galloped 3.69% to Rs 686.45 after net profit rose 3.68% to Rs 1056.85 crore on 13.35% growth in total income to Rs 7918.45 crore in Q1 June 2014 over Q1 June 2013. The result was announced during market hours today, 28 July 2014. The stock was second biggest gainer in 'A' group.

Anil Dhirubhai Ambani-controlled power generation company Reliance Power spurted 3.47% to Rs 94 after the company's 100% subsidiary Reliance CleanGen (RCL) on Sunday, 27 July 2014, signed an exclusive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Jaiprakash Power Ventures (JPVL), a subsidiary of Jaiprakash Associates, for the acquisition of entire hydro power portfolio of JPVL. The stock was third biggest gainer in 'A' group.

Jaiprakash Associates will utilize the entire proceeds of the proposed transaction to reduce its outstanding debt, and thereby deleverage its consolidated balance sheet, the combined press released said. Upon completion of the proposed transaction, Reliance Power will become the largest provider of hydroelectric power in the private sector in India.

Power generation firm Jaiprakash Power Ventures rose 3.17% to Rs 19.55. The stock was fifth biggest gainer in 'A' group.

Glenmark Pharmaceuticals climbed 3.43% to Rs 658.15. The stock was fourth biggest gainer in 'A' group. The stock hit a 52-week high of Rs 663.65 in intraday today, 28 July 2014.
