Core inflation flat at 3.9% in March 2015
The all-India general CPI inflation slowed down to three months low of to 5.2% in March 2015 (new base 2012=100) from 5.4% in February 2015. Food items were major contributors to the CPI inflation decline in March 2015.The corresponding provisional inflation rate for rural area was 5.6% and urban area 4.7% in March 2015 as against 5.8% and 5% in February 2015. The core CPI inflation was flat at 3.9% in March 2015.
The CPI inflation decline in March 2015 was mainly driven by decline in inflation for the food and beverages group at 6.2% in March 2015 from 6.8% in February 2015. Inflation for clothing and footwear eased to 6.3%, while housing inflation also fell to 4.8% in March 2015. On the other hand, the Inflation for miscellaneous items rose to 3%, while that for fuel and light inched up to 5.1% from 4.7%.
