Energy stocks edge higher

Energy stocks were trading in green, with the S&P BSE Energy index increasing 97.98 points or 2.81% at 3578.68 at 09:52 IST.

Among the components of the S&P BSE Energy index, Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Ltd (up 6.16%), Aban Offshore Ltd (up 4.93%),Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (up 4.29%),Coal India Ltd (up 4.07%),Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd (up 3.75%), were the top gainers. Among the other gainers were Hindustan Oil Exploration Company Ltd (up 3.38%), Oil & Natural Gas Corpn Ltd (up 3.08%), Confidence Petroleum India Ltd (up 2.9%), Reliance Industries Ltd (up 2.88%), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (up 2.83%).

On the other hand, Gujarat Gas Ltd (down 3.32%), Petronet LNG Ltd (down 2.8%), and Goa Carbon Ltd (down 2.12%) turned lower.

At 09:52 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was up 316.59 or 1.01% at 31706.66.

The Nifty 50 index was up 63.8 points or 0.69% at 9261.2.

The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was up 16.35 points or 0.15% at 11111.54.

The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was up 13.67 points or 0.35% at 3913.46.

On BSE,799 shares were trading in green, 749 were trading in red and 70 were unchanged.
