Metal stocks tumble

Metal stocks were trading in red, with the S&P BSE Metal index decreasing 356.42 points or 3.56% at 9647.06 at 13:52 IST.

Among the components of the S&P BSE Metal index, Tata Steel Ltd (down 6.31%), Steel Authority of India Ltd (down 5.96%),National Aluminium Company Ltd (down 4.21%),Hindalco Industries Ltd (down 3.8%),Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (down 3.54%), were the top losers. Among the other losers were Vedanta Ltd (down 3.42%), Coal India Ltd (down 3.03%), JSW Steel Ltd (down 1.49%), NMDC Ltd (down 0.92%), and Hindustan Zinc Ltd (down 0.59%).

At 13:52 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was down 240.71 or 0.59% at 40901.14.

The Nifty 50 index was down 90.75 points or 0.75% at 12007.6.

The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was down 51.3 points or 0.35% at 14789.03.

The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was down 39.02 points or 0.76% at 5108.7.

On BSE,940 shares were trading in green, 1395 were trading in red and 174 were unchanged.
