Three telecom stocks rose 1.19% to 2.06% at 10:12 IST on BSE on reports that the government asked telecom regulator Trai to speed up its base price suggestions for auction of spectrum.
Reliance Communications (up 1.19%), Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) (up 1.89%), and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (up 2.06%) edged higher. Bharti Airtel (down 0.08%) and Idea Cellular (down 0.46%) edged lower.
Meanwhile, the S&P BSE Sensex was down 19.86 points or 0.07% at 28,424.15.
According to reports, the government is keen to auction 3G airwaves along with 2G in February and has therefore, asked the sector regulator Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) to speed up its base price suggestions.
