Nifty April futures trade at small premium to spot price

Turnover on NSE's F&O segment spurts

The April 2016 futures on the Nifty 50 index traded at 7,860.25, a premium of 9.80 points compared with Nifty's closing of 7,850.45 in the cash market. The Nifty May 2016 futures traded at 7,895, a premium of 44.55 points compared with the spot closing for the index.

Turnover on the National Stock Exchange's (NSE) futures and options (F&O) totaled Rs 3.03 lakh crore, higher than turnover of Rs 2.08 lakh crore registered during the previous trading session.

In the cash market, the Nifty rose 141.50 points or 1.84% to settle at 7,850.45, its highest closing level since 1 January 2016.

Tata Steel, Infosys, ICICI Bank, Maruti Suzuki India and Reliance Industries were the top traded individual stock futures contracts on the futures & options (F&O) segment of NSE. Tata Steel April 2016 futures traded at 332.70, near spot closing of 332.40. Infosys April 2016 futures traded at 1176.20, near spot closing of 1175.50. ICICI Bank April 2016 futures traded at 241.25, at a premium compared with spot closing of 240.10.

Maruti Suzuki India April 2016 futures traded at 3753.50, at a premium compared with spot closing of 3742.25. Reliance Industries April 2016 futures traded at 1067, at a premium compared with spot closing of 1065.55.

The April 2016 F&O contracts are set to expire on 28 April 2016. The May 2016 F&O contracts are set to expire on 26 May 2016.
