Nifty July futures trade at modest premium to spot price

Turnover on NSE's F&O segment declines

The June 2016 futures on the Nifty 50 index traded at 8130.55, a small premium of 19.95 points compared with the Nifty's closing of 8110.60 in the cash market. The Nifty July 2016 futures traded at 8157, a modest premium of 46.40 points compared with the spot closing for the index. Turnover on the National Stock Exchange's futures & options (F&O) segment declined to Rs 2.30 lakh crore from turnover of Rs 2.59 lakh crore registered during the previous trading session.

In the cash market, the Nifty lost 59.45 points or 0.72% to settle at 8,110.60, its lowest closing level since 26 May 2016.

State Bank of India (SBI), Tata Motors, Yes Bank, ICICI Bank, Tata Steel and Axis Bank were the top traded individual stock futures contracts in F&O segment of NSE. SBI June 2016 futures traded at 203.25, near spot closing of 202.50. Tata Motors June 2016 futures traded at 446.40, near spot closing of 444.55. Yes Bank June 2016 futures traded at 1067, at a discount compared with spot closing of 1068.

ICICI Bank June 2016 futures traded at 240, at a discount compared with spot closing of 244.15. Tata Steel June 2016 futures traded at 324.35, near spot closing of 322.65. Axis Bank June 2016 futures traded at 534.15, near spot closing of 531.50.

The June 2016 F&O contracts are set to expire on 30 June 2016. The July 2016 F&O contracts are set to expire on 28 July 2016.
