Nifty June 2016 futures trade at premium to spot price

Turnover on NSE's F&O segment spurts

The June 2016 futures on the Nifty 50 index traded at 8,225.95, a premium of 22.35 points compared with the Nifty's closing of 8,203.60 in the cash market. The Nifty July 2016 futures traded at 8,254.60, a premium of 51 points compared with the spot closing for the index. Turnover on the National Stock Exchange's futures & options (F&O) segment totaled Rs 2.72 lakh crore, which was higher than turnover of Rs 1.71 lakh crore registered during the previous trading session.

In the cash market, the Nifty 50 index fell 69.45 points or 0.84% to settle at 8,203.60, its lowest closing level since 6 June 2016.

State Bank of India (SBI), Reliance Industries (RIL), Tata Motors, Tata Steel and Infosys were the top traded individual stock futures contracts in the June 2016 series. SBI June 2016 futures traded at 208.90, at a discount compared with spot closing of 209.50. RIL June 2016 futures traded at 972.55, at a premium compared with spot closing of 970.05. Tata Motors June 2016 futures traded at 468.95, at a premium compared with spot closing of 466.70.

Tata Steel June 2016 futures traded at 343.50, at a discount compared with spot closing of 344. Infosys June 2016 futures traded at 1193.25, at a premium compared with spot closing of 1187.

The June 2016 F&O contracts are set to expire on 30 June 2016. The July 2016 F&O contracts are set to expire on 28 July 2016.
