Agriculture Ministry data showed that rabi acreage rose by 6.6% to 572 lakh hectares (lh) as on 27 December 2019 over the corresponding week last year. The total planted area under winter crop the same week last year was 536 lh. Wheat acreage surged by nearly 10% to 297 lh. There was an almost 10% increase in area under wheat till this week to 297 lh on improved performance in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat. Pulses area rose 2.41% to 140.13 lh. Area under Chana or Gram jumped 5.64% to 95 lh. Area under Oilseeds slipped marginally by 0.80% to 74.12 lh. Acreage under Mustard seed fell by 1% to 65.68 lh. Coarse cereals acreage jumped 10.80% to 46.66 lh.
