Realty shares slide on profit booking

DLF (down 1.78%), D B Realty (down 1.40%), Phoenix Mills (down 1.20%), Prestige Estates (down 0.85%), Sobha Developers (down 0.85%), Parsvnath Developers (down 0.72%), Unitech (down 0.71%), Indiabulls Real Estate (down 0.58%) and HDIL (down 0.47%), edged lower.

The BSE Realty index was down 0.79% at 2,176.94. It underperformed the Sensex, which was down 0.23% at 19,720.08.

The BSE Realty index rose 7.11% in the preceding eight sessions to 2,194.27 on 3 January 2012, from a recent low of Rs 2,048.55 on 21 December 2012.

The BSE Realty index had outperformed the market over the past one month till 3 January 2013, rising 8.34% compared with the Sensex's 2.38% rise. The index had also outperformed the market in past one quarter, rising 18.43% as against Sensex's 4.74% rise.
