Sugar production estimated 250.46 lakh tons during 2014-15

The Department of Food and Public Distribution organized a conference of Cane Commissioners of the sugar producing States here yesterday to discuss expected production in the sugar season 2014-15 and other issues related to the sugar industry. The meeting was chaired by Shri Sudhir Kumar, Secretary, Food & Public Distribution.

Keeping in view the first advance estimates of sugarcane production released by the Department of Agriculture and Cooperation and discussion with the Cane Commissioners of the States, the production of sugar is expected to be around 250.46 lakh tons during 2014-15 which would be sufficient to meet the estimated domestic requirement of 245 lakh tons during the period. The sugar production during the previous sugar season (2013-14) is provisionally estimated to be 245.54 Lakh Tons.
