Telecom stocks edge lower

Telecom stocks were trading in red, with the S&P BSE Telecom index decreasing 20.21 points or 2.13% at 930.28 at 13:48 IST.

Among the components of the S&P BSE Telecom index, Vodafone Idea Ltd (down 6.19%), Reliance Communications Ltd (down 2.86%),Bharti Airtel Ltd (down 2.69%),GTL Infrastructure Ltd (down 2.33%),Vindhya Telelinks Ltd (down 1.37%), were the top losers. Among the other losers were HFCL Ltd (down 0.57%), and Sterlite Technologies Ltd (down 0.23%).

On the other hand, OnMobile Global Ltd (up 6.04%), Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (up 4.95%), and Optiemus Infracom Ltd (up 4.91%) turned up.

At 13:48 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was up 275.94 or 0.69% at 40524.17.

The Nifty 50 index was up 69.35 points or 0.58% at 11986.55.

The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was down 11.49 points or 0.08% at 13510.55.

The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was up 11.07 points or 0.24% at 4657.27.

On BSE,1169 shares were trading in green, 1159 were trading in red and 170 were unchanged.
