Nifty January 2016 futures trade near spot price

The January 2016 futures on the 50-unit Nifty 50 index traded at 7930.15, which was near Nifty's closing of 7925.15 in the cash market. Nifty December 2015 futures which expire this week, traded at 7904.50, at a discount of 20.65 points compared with Nifty's closing of 7925.15 in the cash market.

Turnover on the National Stock Exchange's futures and options (F&O) segment surged to Rs 2.41 lakh crore from turnover of Rs 1.97 lakh crore registered during the previous trading session on Thursday, 24 December 2015. The stock market was closed on Friday, 25 December 2015, on account of Christmas.

In the cash market, the Nifty rose 64.10 points or 0.81% to settle at 7,925.15, its highest closing level since 2 December 2015.

Reliance Industries (RIL), State Bank of India (SBI) and JSW Steel were the top traded individual stock futures contracts on the futures & options (F&O) segment of NSE.

RIL January 2016 futures traded at 1014.25, near spot closing of 1010.10. RIL December 2015 futures traded at 1008.70, at a discount compared with spot closing of 1010.10.

SBI January 2016 futures traded at 228.50, at a discount compared with spot closing of 228.60. SBI December 2015 futures traded 228.90, near spot closing of 228.60.

JSW Steel January 2016 futures traded at 1035.50, near spot closing of 1028.50. JSW Steel December 2015 futures traded at 1031.45, near spot closing of 1028.50.

The December 2015 F&O contracts are set to expire on Thursday, 31 December 2015. The January 2016 F&O contracts are set to expire on 28 January 2016.
