Ten pilgrims were killed and over 20 injured Monday in a stampede at a temple in Madhya Pradesh's Satna district, authorities said.
The stampede took place when the pilgrims were doing a 'parikrama' (circumambulating) of a hill near the Kamta Nath temple in Chitrakoot.
Sources said that a large number of pilgrims thronged the temple as it was "Somvati Amavasya". They were going around the hill when a rumour broke out of a snapped live wire, triggering the stampede.
The dead include six women.
A magisterial probe has been ordered.
