More than 15 government buses were vandalised here Friday afternoon by protestors after a speeding city bus mowed down a teenaged student, killing him on the spot, police said.

Groups of students from various institutes of the city vandalised buses near the main bus stand, Rao Mahavir Chowk, City police station and the Bhim Nagar area.

"Pappu, 18, studying at Brilliance Institute and a resident of Surat Nagar, was killed when he was mowed down by a Haryana Roadways bus," a protesting student told IANS.

"The driver of the bus suddenly accelerated the vehicle when students were boarding it. Pappu came under the rear wheels of the bus and died on the spot," he said.

"The body was on the road for more than half an hour, but no ambulance was provided. The victim was taken to a hospital in an autorickshaw, but was declared brought dead by doctors," he added.

Angry students from the teenaged boy's institute stopped a State Roadways bus from Jhajjar and set it on fire.

Also, students from various educational institutes damaged State Roadways buses near the City police station, said a senior police officer.

"The agitating students vandalised all the vehicles within just half an hour. No passenger was injured," the officer said.
