At least 17 people were killed when a bus veered off the road and plunged into a river in Jumla district of Nepal on Monday, police said.

Xinhua quoted police officer Indra Bahadur Saud as saying that the bus skidded off the highway and plunged some 200 metres down into river Tila.

Thirteen people died on the spot while 11 people were injured. The site of the incident is 24 km from Khalanga, the district headquarters.
