Two minor sisters trafficked from Jharkhand and illegally confined in a north Delhi house were rescued in a joint operation by police and Delhi Commission for Women, police said on Thursday. A businessman and his parents have been arrested.
Accused Hitesh Sancheti, 29, and his parents Dhanraj Sancheti and Chanchal Devi were arrested on Wednesday night from Pitampura.
According to DCW chief Swati Maliwal, the girls aged 7 and 10 were in a trauma when rescued.
"They were brought here by an unidentified woman from Jharkhand. They said that as their parents were very poor, they sold them. The elder one was brought here seven months ago while the younger was brought here three months ago," said Maliwal.
"Both were tortured and denied basic necessities. Their condition displays the atrocities they suffered. Both are not in proper condition, and their clothes were stinking. They said they were not allowed to talk to their parents. The accused threatened them with dire consequences if they disclosed their atrocities to their parents," the DCW Chairperson said.
They were rescued after a phone call on the DCW helpline number 23379181.
