At least 20 people have been killed and 80 others wounded in car bomb and roadside bomb attacks in Iraq , police said.

The attacks occurred in a period of one hour Saturday night and were mainly focused on Shiite neighborhood around Baghdad, xinhua reported.

So far no group has claimed responsibility for the attacks. The Shiite community is frequently targeted by Sunni Islamist militants who have been regaining momentum across the country over the past year.

Earlier in the day, a total of 36 people were killed, mostly security troops, in two major battles and separate insurgents attacks across the country.
