21 new districts in Telangana to be launched on Tuesday

Telangana will see birth of 21 new districts on Tuesday, taking the total number of districts in India's youngest state to 31.

The new districts will formally come into being from Dussehra on Tuesday and their number became clear on Monday when the government released the list.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government said reorganisation of districts will help take administration to people.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao will formally inaugurate Siddipet district, being carved out of existing Medak district.

Telangana Assembly S. Madhusudhana Chary will inaugurate Jayashankar district while Council Chairman K. Swamy Goud will launch Jangaon district. Both these districts are being carved out of the existing Warangal district.

Warangal Rural, another district being carved out of existing Warangal, will be inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari.

Another Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahamood Ali will inaugurate Jagitial district, being created out of existing Karimnagar district.

Sixteen other districts will also be inaugurated simultaneously by the ministers. These districts are; Yadadri, Peddapally, Kamareddy, Medak, Mancherial, Vikarabad, Rajanna, Asifabad, Suryapet, Kothagudem, Nirmal, Wanaparthy, Nagarkurnool, Mahabubabad, Jogulamba and Medchal (Malkajgiri).

Barring Hyderabad, the existing 10 districts have been split into three or four districts.

The government last month issued draft notification for creating 17 new districts but later decided to create four more districts in view of strong demands from various sections.

Though the protests were on for creation of more districts in different parts of the state, the government made it clear that there will be no further addition.

On an average, each district will have population of two lakh to four lakh families, except Hyderabad where the number is much large.

The chief minister said that the purpose of creating new districts is to improve governance, bring transparency and ensure better delivery of welfare schemes.

"The district collectors will have details of all families on their fingertips," he said.
