At least 24 suspected militants were killed and 20 others injured in a massive aerial assault launched Thursday by Pakistani security forces in parts of the Khyber tribal region.

The airstrikes in Akakhel area of Bara tehsil were aimed at the outlawed Lashkar-i-Islam and Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants, who were involved in recent attacks in the region, Dawn online reported.

Jet fighters continued carrying out assaults but media personnel did not have free access to the area, the report said.

Security forces carried out airstrikes along with a search operation in the tribal region.

According to an earlier report, at least 10 suspected militants were killed and 15 others injured.
