A total of 25 driving schools will be opened in Jharkhand, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari said here on Tuesday.
"There is a need for two lakh trained drivers in the country and 25 drivers training centres will be opened in Jharkhand. We are planning to open such centres in backward areas of the country to train youths," Gadkari said while speaking on the 17th statehood day of the state.
He said: "Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power, the National Highways in Jharkhand increased from 2,661 km to 5,390 km."
"We are working on waterways which is the cheapest way of transport... This year we are working on Ganga waterways project and next year Subarnarekha river waterways of Jharkhand project will be taken up. The 26 rivers of the state will be developed as waterways," Gadkari said.
Jharkhand is celebrating its 17th foundation day. The state was carved out from Bihar on November 15, 2000. The official function was held at Morabadi Ground in Ranchi.
