At least three Turkish soldiers were killed Tuesday by unidentified gunmen on the Syria-Turkey border.

The mayor of Sanliurfa city, where the incident took place, said that the soldiers on guard duty on the border were shot dead early Tuesday, Al Jazeera reported citing Anatolia news agency.

The mayor said it was unclear where the fire came from and that authorities were investigating the incident.

Following the attack, Turkish special army forces have been deployed to the border and security measures have been increased in the area.
