The army has evacuated 33 people from a village in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district after it was flooded by the rising water of Basantar river, a defence ministry statement said Sunday.

Flood relief columns of the army Saturday reached Rangor village in Ramgarh area along with relief equipment and evacuated the villagers, including women and children, to safer places, the statement said.

The flood caused extensive damage to crops and properties, it added.

Due to incessant rain, the water level in the Basantar rapidly increased by 16-18 feet.
