38 schoolchildren injured in Italian bus crash

As many as 38 students suffered injuries in Italy when a bus carrying them for swimming championships veered off the road, media reports said.

The bus, carrying three swimming teams to Lignano Sabbiadoro, a city in Italy where the finals were scheduled to take place in next few days, when it came off the road due to unknown reasons, Xinhua reported.

As many as 38 of the 40 schoolchildren onboard, aged between 12 and 16, were taken to nearby hospitals.

The bus driver reportedly told rescuers that he faced a problem while applying brakes and thus could not control the heavy vehicle. The bus fell on its side and part of the roof crushed some seats.
