Four soldiers of the Indian Army were arrested from the Dibrugarh railway station in Assam for allegedly trying to molest a girl, police said Friday, adding search is on for a fifth who escaped.
All the four - Manjit Singh, P.C. Joshi, Arvind Singh and V. Rana - were Friday presented before the Dibrugarh sessions court, which sent them to judicial custody.
"We received the information about the incident at about 9 p.m. Thursday. Four jawans had allegedly tried molest the girl who arrived at the station by a train with her brother. The local people available at the station intervened when the girl complained," said Dibrugarh Superintendent of Police Rana Bhuyan.
The locals also beat up the jawans before handing them over to police.
Bhuyan said there were five soldiers involved in the incident but one of them managed to escape. "We have asked the army base here to produce the escaped jawan by tomorrow (Saturday)," he said.
