At least 98 people died and 129 others were missing in the recent floods and landslides in Nepal, as heavy downpour continued across the country for the fourth day Sunday, the government said.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bam Dev Gautam said distribution of relief has become a herculean task. He said his government has appealed to the Indian government for sending choppers to aid the flood and landslide victims.

The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu Saturday issued a statement saying that the government of India has decided to provide three helicopters and a fixed wing plane to Nepal for supply of materials and rescue works.

Earlier this month, at the request of the Nepal government, an Indian technical team visited Nepal to review the situation in the landslide-hit Sindhupalchowk district, the statement said.

Nepal's home ministry said Sunday that at least 98 people have been killed in floods and landslides across the county since Aug 14.

According to the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), 37 people were injured and another 129 reported missing since the past four days.

The NEOC said that 328 houses were damaged and another 145 houses were damaged partially.

It further stated that 11,584 houses were fully inundated by the flood and 12,750 families have been displaced.

Surkhet district in West Nepal was the worst hit district, where 28 people were killed and 98 reported missing, 379 houses were swept away and 17,00 families were displaced.

According to an earlier report, at least 84 people were killed and 156 were missing.
