The Aam Aadmi Party's student wing -- Chatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS) -- reached out to over 750 DU aspirants who thronged the north and south campuses on Thursday after the first cut-off list was released the previous night.

"We've collected the details of over 750 students ... and will remain in touch with them till the time their admission process is complete and would then invite them to join us," Anupam Kumar Yadav, state president of CYSS told IANS.

"Around 35 students joined us today (Thursday) and 15 of them will start participating in voluntary work from tomorrow (Friday) itself," he added.

Yadav said the data collected was from around 28 colleges.

Considered to be a traditional battlefield of the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) backed by the Rashtriya Swamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Congress' National Students Union of India, CYSS is the latest entrant in DU's political scene.

Left-oriented All India Students' Association (AISA) too has been making desperate efforts to gain popularity.

According to Yadav, CYSS had put up help desks in all colleges and also used social media aggressively to reach out to the aspirants and besides helping them to fill up forms, the volunteers also encouraged them to join CYSS.

The CYSS, which has not contested Delhi University Students' Union polls yet, is likely to make its debut this year, Yadav hinted.

"As per an internal survey of 40 colleges of DU, we have a sizeable support base. The students want a change and we may fight this time," he said.
