After being routed in the February 4 assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party in Goa has resolved to back its volunteers in at least 15 per cent of the 1,522 seats up for grabs in the upcoming village panchayat polls.
Party spokesperson Ashley do Rosario told reporters in Panaji that the party, which did not win a single seat in the assembly elections, will back its volunteers contesting the panchayat polls in four talukas (sub districts).
"We will back our volunteers in Bardez, Salcete, Mormugao and Tiswadi... Over all, we are backing our candidates in 15 per cent of the total panchayat wards which are headed for elections," Rosario said.
Panchayat polls in Goa are not held on political party lines, but political parties often tend to back individual candidates or a panel of candidates.
Panchayat polls are scheduled to be held in the state on June 11.
