The body of a 13-year-old son of a jeweller was recovered from near a canal on the outskirts of the national capital a day after he was kidnapped while returning home from school, police said Wednesday. The kidnappers had demanded Rs. 1 crore as ransom.
The body of Utkarsh, a Class 8 student of a private school, was found near Block-12 in east Delhi's Geeta Colony Wednesday morning.
Utkarsh was kidnapped Tuesday while returning from his school situated in Anand Vihar in east Delhi.
Youngest among three siblings, Utkarsh, was kidnapped from a street leading to his house in east Delhi's Gandhi Nagar after his school van left him there around 2.30 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
Police said that the kidnappers had made two calls Tuesday evening demanding a ransom of Rs. 1 crore.
"The kidnappers had demanded ransom of Rs. 1 crore and to keep the police away from the matter. The family had approached us before the ransom call. We suspect insiders' role behind the kidnapping of the victim because the kidnappers knew that police was looking for them," said a police official.
"Apart from the district police, several teams of Special Cell and Crime Branch of Delhi police have been formed to arrest the kidnappers," said a police official.
