A criminal was accidentally shot dead by one of his associates when they were trying to kidnap a businessman here Tuesday morning, police said.
The incident was reported around 8 a.m. from Narela in west Delhi where four criminals in a car tried to kidnap sanitary and hardware businessman Ramesh Kumar, 42.
"During the kidnapping bid, the victim resisted and one of the accused opened fire at him. The bullet accidentally pierced the head of another kidnapper Praveen, 26, who died on the spot," a police official said.
"The criminals fled from the spot after the incident," the official said.
Kumar, who resides in Narela, told police that he had no personal enmity with anyone.
Police claimed that the other three assailants have been identified but they are still on the run.
"We are yet to verify the criminal background of the deceased kidnapper," the official added.
