An additional police observer has been appointed for two parliamentary constituencies in West Bengal that go to the polls in the first phase on April 11, an official said on Friday.
"Earlier Vinod Kumar was in charge of both the constituencies. Now Alok Kumar Roy, an IPS officer of 1991 batch, has been appointed for Coochbehar (SC) constituencies," Additional Chief Electoral Officer Sanjay Basu told the media here.
Kumar will be in charge of the Alipurduar (ST) constituency, he said.
Asked about the action taken against BJP leader and Basirhat constituency candidate Sayantan Basu for his hate speech last month, Basu said the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, West Bengal, has submitted its observation and the matter is with the Election Commission of India.
