Supreme Court Chief Justice H.L. Dattu was on Monday urged not to commence the two-day conference of the chief justices of the high courts on Good Friday as it is an important spiritual day of deliverance of humanity from sin.

As lawyer Lily Thomas urged Chief Justice H.L. Dattu not to commence the conference on Good Friday, the chief justice said the conference is being held on a holiday just to save a working day and in the past too this conference was held on important holidays.

Asking Thomas to move an application making her plea, Chief Justice Dattu said in 2007 the chief justices' conference was held on Valmiki Day, and in 2009, it was held on Independence Day. At that time, nobody had any grievance.

"In 2007 and 2009, nobody had any grievance. Is it because I am CJI (chief justice of India)? What happened to spirituality back then? If you want to oppose it, please file a petition and let the court take a decision," Chief Justice Dattu told Lily Thomas.

Chief Justice Dattu has convened a two-day conference of the chief justices of the high courts to discuss the matters relating to judiciary. This conference is held once in two to three years.
