At least six Afghan soldiers were killed in an attack by suspected Taliban militants on an army checkpoint in Afganistan, media reported Tuesday. A militant was also killed in the gun battle.
"Taliban militants attacked a checkpoint of the Afghan national army in Joiganj village of Balamirghab district late Monday, which left six soldiers dead. The militants fled with another soldier," Daud Shah Wafadar, an army offical told Xinuha Tuesday.
The officer also said that he could not rule out the hand of a Taliban mole in the incident, adding that the soldier who fled with the militants could be a Taliban man who might have assisted the rebels in carrying out the deadly attack.
Taliban militants, who have intensified subversive activities over the past couple of months, were yet to claim responsibility for the offensive.
