The 22nd African Union (AU) summit kicked off Thursday at the AU headquarters in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa,.
Preceded by the sessions of the Permanent Representatives Committee Jan 21-23 and the Executive Council Jan 27-29, the summit is being held under the theme 'Transforming Africa's Agriculture: Harnessing Opportunities for Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development', Xinhua reported.
The summit was also preceded by the meeting of the AU Peace and Security Council at the level of heads of state Jan 29, whereby the leaders deliberated on the situations in South Sudan, Central African Republic and Egypt.
In her opening speech at the summit, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, chairperson of the AU Commission, emphasised on the need to commit efforts to AU's Agenda 2063 to chart the future for Africa towards a peaceful and prosperous continent.
