The ruling AIADMK party's nominee A. Navaneethakrishnan is all set to get elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha as only his nomination was found proper during scrutiny Tuesday, said an official statement.
In a statement issued here, A.M.P. Jamaludeen, legislative assembly secretary and returning officer, said out of the five nominations received four were found to be invalid.
Only the nomination papers filed by Navaneethakrishnan were declared valid, Jamaludeen said.
Once Navaneethakrishnan gets elected unopposed, the number of AIADMK members in the Rajya Sabha will go up to 12.
The Rajya Sabha seat fell vacant following the disqualification of DMK member T.M. Selvaganapathi.
In April, Selvaganapathi was sentenced to two years' rigorous imprisonment after being convicted in a cheating case by a CBI court here.
The case related to the time when Selvaganapathi was minister for rural development and local administration in the AIADMK government (1991-96).
