Suffering an abdominal ailment for several years and finding no relief, a 45-year-old woman in Tripura slit her stomach and died, police said on Thursday.
Salea Khatun slashed her stomach open with a sharp blade at Sonamura on Wednesday night, police said.
"Her family members told us that to get relief from her prolonged illness, she cut open her stomach... she died as a result," a police officer said.
The woman, mother of five children, was facing abdominal discomfort for several years and had consulted various doctors.
"I have done everything ... whatever the doctors advised me to cure my wife and spent lakhs of rupees on treatment. The doctors could not even diagnose her disease," Khatun's husband Mamin Mia said.
