Community driven accommodation marketplace Airbnb on Wednesday said travel via its platform in India has tripled in the last one year, pegging India as one of its fastest growing markets.
"Countries all over the world continue to embrace home sharing, and we are excited that India is at the forefront of this movement," said Airbnb co-founder and CTO Nathan Blecharczyk in a statement.
Airbnb allows people to monetise their extra space, making it visible and available to millions of people.
However, the India-specific metrics of growth were not revealed.
Terming the government's intention to introduce progressive rules on home sharing as positive news, Blecharczyk welcomed the tourism ministry's indication in April to review the rules and regulations governing home sharing in India.
