The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court on Thursday ordered "expeditious decision" on suspended IPS officer Amitabh Thakur's application pending in a Lucknow court against closure of a criminal case against Mulayam Singh Yadav.
A bench of Justice Sudhir Kumar Saxena gave the order after hearing Thakur and government counsel Rishad Murtaza.
The court said that since the officers are being transferred frequently and lawyers are regularly on strike, no fixed time can be ordered. At the same, he directed the chief judicial magistrate's court to decide the application expeditiously and avoid unnecessary adjournments.
The senior Indian Police Service officer said in his petition that his first information report against Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh was closed by the investigating officer on October 10, 2015.
He challenged the closure report before the Lucknow CJM on November 16 last year, praying for framing of charges against Mulayam Singh, which had not been decided so far.
After Thakur accused the former chief minister of telephonically threatening him of physical harm, the Uttar Pradesh Police refused to lodge an FIR. It was after the court's intervention that a case was registered against Yadav.
Thakur was suspended thereafter and a slew of cases slapped against him. The high court and the Central Administrative Tribunal have quashed his suspension but the government has so far not implemented the directives.
