Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh will launch his government's year-long celebrations to commemorate the 550th 'Parkash Purab' (birth anniversary) of Guru Nanak Dev on November 23 from the Sikh holy town of Sultanpur Lodhi in Kapurthala district.
"The Chief Minister will lay the foundation stone for several development projects in the holy city of Sultanpur Lodhi on the occasion of the Gur Purab of the first Sikh Guru, marking the inauguration of a series of events planned to mark the celebrations of the 550th Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji," a spokesperson for the Chief Minister said on Saturday.
Prior to the launch of these celebrations, the Chief Minister will chair a meeting of the state coordination committee on November 19 and will also meet the representatives of 'Sant Samaaj' (Sikh religious leaders) to finalize the modalities for the celebrations, the spokesperson added.
The Punjab government has planned year-long celebrations to mark the 550th birth anniversary of the founder of Sikh religion.
Guru Nanank Dev (1469-1539) is revered in Sikh religion, one of the youngest religions in the world.
