Moderate to dense fog and chilly weather failed to dampen the spirit of Republic Day celebrations in Punjab and Haryana on Friday.
People and students turned out in large numbers at various official and other functions across both states to witness the impressive parade and cultural functions.
Punjab Governor V.P. Singh Badnore unfurled the national flag in Pathankot while Chief Minister Amarinder Singh did so in his hometown Patiala.
In Haryana, Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki unfurled the flag in Ambala. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar unfurled the flag in Rohtak.
The Haryana government had asked all gram panchayats (village councils) in the state to hoist the national flag on Republic Day.
