England pacer James Anderson became the most successful bowler at Lord's and on English soil on the first day of the second Test against India here Thursday.
Anderson went past former English fast bowler Fred Trueman, who had 229 wickets on English soil, to become the most successful bowler on English soil when he dismissed India opener Shikhar Dhawan.
Trueman, who played his last Test against New Zealand at Lord's in June 1965, has 229 wickets from 47 Tests in England at a fantastic average of 20.04. Anderson surpassed Trueman in his 55th Test in England.
The 31-year-old Anderson, who made his Test debut also at Lord's against Zimbabwe in May 2003, achieved another milestone when he went past former English all-rounder Ian Botham as the most successful bowler at Lord's.
Botham had 69 scalps at the 'home of cricket' and Anderson went ahead the mark in his 16th match on the famous ground where he has best figures of 5/42. His best match figures here are 7/70 and he has four five-wicket hauls at Lord's.
The most successful Indian bowlers on the ground are former captains Bishan Singh Bedi and Kapil Dev, both with 17 wickets from four Tests.
