In the fifth seizure of gold at the Biju Patnaik International Airport here this week, the Customs Department on Saturday seized over 300 gm of the precious metal worth Rs 9.53 lakh from a passenger returning from abroad, a statement said.
The customs's Air Intelligence Unit officials intercepted a passenger hailing from Bengaluru who arrived from Bangkok on Saturday and seized the gold, weighing 304.960 gram, which was to be smuggled into India.
The department on Thursday seized 15 gold bars worth Rs 34.90 lakh from two passengers and on Wednesday seized three gold bars and 143 gold rings worth over Rs 12 lakh from two passengers hailing from Maharashtra.
