Veteran actor Anthony Hopkins opened up about his battle with alcoholism saying "It was very difficult to work because I was usually hung over."
During an event of the LEAP Foundation, the "Solace" actor, who was there as a chief guest, spoke to the audience about his problems with alcohol and the impact it had on his early career on stage, telegraph.co.uk
Hopkins added that he had been "disgusted, busted and not to be trusted" while he was drinking.
The 80-year-old actor conceded that the turning point for him came courtesy the advice from a woman at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in December 1975.
He said the woman asked him, "why don't you just trust in God?" and from then on the urge to drink was "never to return".
"I believe that we are capable of so much. From my own life, I still cannot believe that my life is what it is because I should have died in Wales, drunk or something like that," Hopkins said while addressing the students of University Of California.
Giving advice to the students, he added: "Say yes and take the risk."
Hopkins recently starred in HBO drama "Westworld" and will appear in the Netflix's "The Pope" where he stars as Pope Benedict.
