Indian army chief, Gen. Dalbir Singh on Tuesday briefed Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on the overall security situation in the state, a defence statement said.
"Following his meeting with J&K Governor, N.N.Vohra in New Delhi yesterday (on Monday), General Dalbir Singh, the Chief of Army Staff today (on Tuesday) called upon Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti during his visit to the Valley.
"During the cordial meeting at the chief minister's official residence in Srinagar, the Army Chief, who was also accompanied by the Northern Army Commander, Lt Gen. D.S. Hooda and Chinar Corps Commander, Lt Gen. Satish Dua, covered a wide range of issues from the overall security scenario to the specific arrangements for the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra and the Assembly by-elections," it said.
The army chief was earlier briefed by Dua about the preparedness of Chinar Corps in dealing with the emerging security challenges and measures to thwart any misadventure by forces inimical to peace, it said.
"The Corps Commander also highlighted the measures adopted to integrate the efforts of various security forces for efficient intelligence network and synergised conduct of operations," it added.
The army chief also visited the forward area of Baramulla as also Awantipura where he was briefed upon the operational readiness by the respective formation commanders and also interacted with officers and men and complimented them for their untiring efforts, the statement said.
"Expressing his satisfaction over the measures instituted by Chinar Corps to ensure security in the valley, Gen. Dalbir Singh reiterated on the continued need for integration and close coordination amongst all security agencies."
