The Federation Cup National Athletics Championships, to be held at the National Institute of Sports here Aug 16-19, will serve as the selection trial for the participating squad at the Incheon Asian Games.
"Punjab will be hosting a major athletics championship after many years and we hope it will further boost track and field sports in the state," Punjab Athletics Association (PAA) president Satvir Singh said here Thursday.
"We are thankful to the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) president Adille Sumariwalla for allotting us the Federation Cup to Punjab and we look forward to conducting more national tourneys in the future. I hope the event will witness many new records and brilliant performances."
PAA secretary K.P.S. Brar said that around 900 entries have already been received for the 18th edition of the National Championships which will have international technical officials.
The Asian Games will be held at Incheon, South Korea, from Sep 19 to Oct 4.
