PMK founder S. Ramadoss Wednesday opposed senior government officials joining political parties after their retirement and demanded amendment of laws.
"In order to ensure an IAS or IPS officer's impartial functioning, they should be banned from joining a political party after their retirement," Ramadoss said in a statement here.
He urged the central government and the legal experts to amend the necessary laws after a public debate.
Ramadoss said it is not acceptable that an official getting his salary from the taxes paid by the people could be acting in favour of a particular political party.
He said some senior government officials, eyeing some post-retirement positions by joining a political party, fail to discharge their duties in an impartial manner and act in favour of a political party.
