Bayern Munich have completed the signing of AS Roma defender Medhi Benatia, the German football club confirmed in an official statement.
Bayern Wednesday signed the Morocco international who received jersey number 5 after putting pen to paper on a five-year deal, until June 2019, reports Xinhua.
The former Roma defender is said to replace Pep Guardiola's defensive key player Javi Martinez, who is sidelined for six months following a torn cruciate ligament in his left knee.
"I am very glad to be here. It is a great pleasure and opportunity for me. I play now for one of the biggest clubs in the world," Bayern's new arrival told the clubs official homepage.
Bayern's sporting director Matthias Sammer added: "I am delighted that Medhi has opted for us. Benatia is a robust and ball winning defender with a good build up play. He fulfills all qualities which entitle him to play for Bayern Munich".
