People helping authorities in exposing terror plots in the Chinese capital city will be rewarded, police in Beijing have announced.

According to Beijing municipal public security bureau, those providing extremely important information which contributes significantly to the prevention or investigation of violent terrorist activities, will be rewarded with at least 40,000 yuan (about $6,540), Xinhua reported.

Whistleblowers can call the police hotline 110, send a message or e-mail to Beijing police's official microblog or report to the police face-to-face, it said, adding that the rewarding scheme turns effective from March 1.

However, anonymous whistleblowers whose identities could not be confirmed, whould not be rewarded. But Beijing police will protect the safety of the informants, the bureau said.

Terrorism is a rising risk for Beijing which has a population of over 20 million.

Last October, a group of terrorists from northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur region carried out an attack in Tian'anmen, an iconic place in Beijing with high-level security.
